Irina Bokova, new Head of the Unesco

The UN cultural and scientific organisation UNESCO has chosen its new leader, former Bulgarian Foreign Minister Irina Bokova, the first woman to be elected at this position.
Irina Bokova was the Bulgarian Ambassador to France and a permanent representative to UNESCO.  With years of experience at the highest levels of international politics, the career diplomat has also had stints at the UN, the International Organization of the Francophonie and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
As a former deputy minister and ex-acting minister of foreign affairs, she also has long-time managerial experience.

Irina Bokova strongly believes in partnerships between public institutions and private companies. She participated in the Women’s Forum that is organized every year in Deauville (France), which gathers women economic actors and which aims at debatting on the place of women within our society and within the economic sphere. During this year’s Women’s Forum, Irina Bokova mentioned the partnership between L’Oréal and the UNESCO.
